Telford & Wrekin Council
Telford & Wrekin Council is supporting residents, businesses, and community groups to create a carbon neutral borough.

Telford & Wrekin Climate Action Investment was created to allow anyone to support Telford & Wrekin Council’s plans to create a carbon neutral borough. The council is already taking action on its own environmental impact – it has cut its carbon footprint by 58% since 2018, putting it on track to hit its target of becoming carbon neutral by 2030.
But its plans go far beyond that. It wants to ensure it supports everyone across the borough to take climate action, and this investment allowed the public to back a number of important local climate projects.

How investors' money has been used
Funds raised from the Telford & Wrekin Climate Investment has been used to fund two main projects. In March 2023, the council purchased two electric vehicle minibuses for our Outdoor Education team to use. The team works with schools from across the borough, taking classes out of their regular education settings to green spaces across Telford and Wrekin and also to our outwards bounds centre – Arthog – on the Welsh Coast.
The money raised also funded a second round of Telford & Wrekin Council’s Climate Change Fund – which was launched in June 2022. Through the fund, the council wanted to encourage organisations in the borough to take action to reduce their carbon footprint and support a ‘green recovery’ at a local level.
Creating a greener future for all their communities
In July 2019, the Council declared a climate emergency and committed to ensure its activities and operations are carbon neutral by 2030.
The Council resolved to work with partners to identify and implement adaptation and mitigation measures to deal with the effects of the ongoing changes in climate; and to collaborate and engage with local residents, partners and businesses to achieve their aspiration for the borough to be carbon neutral by 2030 – making sure they take communities with them, protect employment and without impoverishing their most deprived communities.
