Back in 2012, we launched the first investment platform that would allow anyone to directly invest in green projects from as little as £5, a low minimum investment that remains revolutionary. We spent the next decade raising over £135m for pioneering green businesses across the country - including wind, solar and energy efficiency - and becoming a major funder for the UK tidal industry.
We are proud to have helped pioneer the idea that that we should all take an interest in how our money is used, not just the returns we make.
We think being able to invest our money in a way that is positive for our own futures, our children’s futures and other people’s should be the primary goal of the finance industry. The fact that it is so hard to find those investments has been a driving force for Abundance from the beginning.
Since 2020, we have been working with councils to help improve places across the UK. The idea is a simple one. Citizens can lend money to councils and help finance real projects. That means every pound invested builds something real and long-lasting, and helps people become more connected to the places they care about.
In this era of unpredictable financial markets and opaque cryptocurrencies, we believe it’s more important than ever to connect people with what their money is really doing. Thousands of people are already investing in councils with us, and we are only just getting started.

We have worked with councils of all political colours. Among others, Sheffield, Oxfordshire, Bristol, Glasgow and nine London boroughs have launched investments as part of a long term vision to build communities of citizen investors.
