The green measures funded by this investment include decarbonisation of council-owned buildings, such as fire stations and care homes and helping fund the council's tree planting scheme, which, as well as creating cleaner air, will help improve local biodiversity.

In practice, this means they are working on a series of initiatives and projects that will reduce their operational emissions as much as possible by the year 2030 - seeking to become carbon neutral as a stepping stone ahead of the national 2050 net-zero target.
