Invest in Glasgow City Council’s programme to help the city deliver actions to save energy costs.

Glasgow City Council is committed to making Glasgow one of the greenest cities in Europe, creating a healthier and more climate resilient city for our citizens to enjoy.
The city aims to raise a total of £2million to fund a series of interventions to help fight against the present and future impacts of climate change. The first run of the investment opportunity aims to raise £1m to support the installation of solar panels on council buildings across the city. A second phase, due to begin early next year, aims to raise £1m for environmental improvements to the streetscape around schools and care facilities.
We’ve installed over 1700 solar panels on council buildings in the past year, which dramatically reduces the cost of running community facilities across the city. Plans are in place to add solar to a further 36 council buildings that will eventually provide the city with years and years of cost-free electricity.
Supporting Glasgow’s Community Municipal Investment will contribute to our effort to cut carbon emissions, help save the city hundreds of thousands of pounds and provide a return for investors. It’s a very effective way for people to be engaged and invested in Glasgow’s plans to become a net zero city.

How your money is being used
Glasgow City Council will use the money raised to fund interventions in the city to help fight against the present and future impacts of climate change.
They will be funding sustainable energy projects, supporting the installation of solar panels across a number of council sites to reduce annual energy costs. It will then be focussing on Localised Liveable Neighbourhood Interventions which is part of the Council’s approach to deliver upon the current City Development Plan. This aims to help unlock a step change for Glasgow in how people and goods move around the city, in the design of our streets and public spaces, and in encouraging more sustainable and active travel choices.
Building a greener future across the city
The city declared a climate and ecological emergency in 2019. Glasgow's Climate Plan was developed to address these recommendations and provide a vision for the city, demonstrating leadership in drawing together the collective action of other agencies, businesses, and communities across the city including the Sustainable Glasgow partnership.
Whilst there is an understandable focus on stemming the flow of carbon dioxide in to the atmosphere, there is also a corresponding emphasis on utilising nature-based solutions and nurturing our own relationships with the natural environment, which our social and economic systems intrinsically depend on.
