About Camden Council
In 2019 Camden Council formally announced a climate and ecological emergency and is targeting making Camden net zero carbon by 2030.
Camden Council has placed community engagement at the heart of its plans to tackle the climate emergency. They convened a Citizens’ Assembly in 2019 to ensure that the community was central in how they set out their Climate Action Plan 2020-2025, which came into force in 2020.
How did the council use the money raised?
The money raised from this investment has been allocated by the council to fund a number of initiatives from its Climate Action Plan, including:
- Installing 80 further electric vehicle charging points to encourage residents to switch to electric vehicles.
- Continuing the rollout of their Healthy School Streets initiative, which aims to improve air quality and improve the local environment around schools. Up to 4 projects were funded by this investment.
- Contributing to the replacement of Camden’s fleet of diesel and petrol vehicles with green alternatives.
- Installing solar panels on public buildings to reduce carbon and the cost of electricity.
Key terms
To support Camden Council to fund public electric vehicle charging points, replace Camden's fleet of diesel and petrol vehicles with green alternatives, continue to roll out of the Healthy School Streets programme, and install solar panels on public buildings as part of their plan to reach their zero-carbon target by 2030.
