Helping deliver a sustainable Telford & Wrekin

Funds raised from the Telford & Wrekin Climate Investment has been used to fund two main projects. In March 2023, the council purchased two electric vehicle minibuses for our Outdoor Education team to use. The team works with schools from across the borough, taking classes out of their regular education settings to green spaces across Telford and Wrekin and also to our outwards bounds centre – Arthog – on the Welsh Coast.

The money raised also funded a second round of Telford & Wrekin Council’s Climate Change Fund – which was launched in June 2022. Through the fund, the council wanted to encourage organisations in the borough to take action to reduce their carbon footprint and support a ‘green recovery’ at a local level. 28 successful applicants were awarded funding, totalling more than £217,000. Applicants were also required to find levels of ‘match funding’. This amounted to a further £112.6k, meaning that the project has enabled a total of more than £330,000 to be spent on carbon reductions in the borough.
