Building a greener future across Islington
Projects funded by the investment span across the council's key environmental objectives. They have used the money to fund electrification of one of the Council's bin lorries to operate on zero carbon fueled (200Kw electric driven drivetrain) saving carbon emissions and reducing air pollution. They have also installed 100 EV charging points for residents, as part of an overall programme of 400 new chargers.
In addition they have supported green energy and energy efficiency - part funding the installation of 4,200sqm of roof mounted solar panels, and replacing the lighting in Council buildings with LED lighting to improve energy efficiency and so reduce energy consumption.
They have also funded communal recycling points on estates by improving recycling bins, new bin store areas and enclosures, extra signage and more accessible bins where these are needed.
