Funded council investments

We launched our first council investments in 2020 as a powerful way to connect communities and councils to deliver real climate projects on the ground. And each of the 9 investments we have funded so far has delivered that, by letting anyone back councils’ climate plans up and down the country.

Building essential green energy infrastructure

Councils have always had a central role in delivering infrastructure — from the original energy grids, to roads and sewage. So it’s no surprise that they are also key to delivering the green revolution. Whether that is through installing solar power, or getting more public EV chargers into council car parks, our council investments let you back this essential work.

Backing energy efficiency

It might not grab the headlines (or make for a lovely image) but cutting energy use is really important. And councils have a big part to play in delivering it. Some councils have used their investments to fund energy efficiency measures in public buildings and social housing, and others to fund upgrades such as LED street lighting, or the electrification of their vehicle fleets.

Creating greener, healthier communities

Councils have a responsibility to make their communities a better place for residents. Most of our council investments so far have funded an element of these critical community projects — such as clean air programmes like School Streets, wildflower verges, or community climate funds to help businesses go green.
